I'm going to sew my first tarp as soon I have all the bits and pieces and can find a place suitable for measuring and cutting. The plan is to copy a Warbonnet hex: a rolled hem on the edges and a French seam covered with grosgrain at the ridgeline. After looking at plenty of options, I wonder if the material is important - nylon or polyester grosgrain? Should it be the same as the tarp fabric (due to the stretch characteristics)? So polyester grosgrain for e.g. Silpoly and nylon grosgrain for e.g. Xenon silnylon?
Also, after looking at the ribbon used on my WB tarps, I'm wondering if it's grosgrain at all. The grosgrain I have seen so far all had a stripe pattern. The WB ribbon looks more like a strip of fabric. My experience with WB gear has been that there's a reason for pretty much every detail. Is this the case here?
