Ribbon for tarp ridgeline - nylon or polyester?

I'm going to sew my first tarp as soon I have all the bits and pieces and can find a place suitable for measuring and cutting. The plan is to copy a Warbonnet hex: a rolled hem on the edges and a French seam covered with grosgrain at the ridgeline. After looking at plenty of options, I wonder if the material is important - nylon or polyester grosgrain? Should it be the same as the tarp fabric (due to the stretch characteristics)? So polyester grosgrain for e.g. Silpoly and nylon grosgrain for e.g. Xenon silnylon?

Also, after looking at the ribbon used on my WB tarps, I'm wondering if it's grosgrain at all. The grosgrain I have seen so far all had a stripe pattern. The WB ribbon looks more like a strip of fabric. My experience with WB gear has been that there's a reason for pretty much every detail. Is this the case here?

I would go for polyester, less stretch. I think you will get problems if there is more stretch in the "grosgrain" vs. the fabric.
As for grosgrain it comes in different variations. I don't know for sure but i think it depends on the brand something we often don't know.

I would agree with snowball, you want to transfer the ridgeline tension across the reinforcement media and not the tarp material, so a lower stretch polyester. I am working on a new winter tarp and am going with a standing ridgeline seam with a single folded polyester grosgrain ribbon.

It's not grosgrain. It's single sided polyester satin tape, with the shiny satin side turned to the inside.

    Boston,

I'm going to make my first tarp soon. Do you know where to purchase the polyester tape? This is what I found after a quick search. Is it the same thing?

    Sincerely,
    Dave-O

Yeah, I expect that should work.

I use Offrey brand because it's easily available.

Thanks for the info. Just out of curiosity, what width do you use?

I use 7/8 because 1 inch isn't easy to find. If you can get 1 inch I'd use that.

I thought that xenon was a poly? Am I wrong on this?

Xenon is poly. Dutch has confirmed this on many occasions
