After watching a 4423 sew a wooden yardstick (don't try this at home), and finding it for $120 on Amazon I went for it.

I've made a handful of items now including some tree straps out of heavy duty 1 1/2" webbing.
I also modified a pair of Frogg Toggs pants into something else which meant sewing through two layers of Frogg Togg waistband - which is four layers of whatever frogg toggs is made of plus two layers of elastic. Maybe not as substantial as the webbing, but much thicker. Nothing has phased this machine so far - it just goes.
The machine feels fantastic and hasn't had a single hiccup.

I can't speak for longevity of course, so YMMV.

I have this machine, a singer 301 , a new home 552, and a singer 201 and the 4423 has been fine. I received it as a gift and it is nice to sometimes pamper yourself with an auto button hole or needle threader

The cheapest I can find the 4432 is $159 and the 4423 is $116 both ship free. Are the extra 11 stitches worth $43?

It will be used for hammock and camping gear on my part and only light use by my wife but we likely wont purchase another machine for a long time.

I really think if you're not in a rush, wait and you'll find the 4432 for cheaper. If you are in a rush: no the extra 11 stitches are not worth $43. They are mostly decorative and you will not use them for any hammock gear making. As others have said, straight stitch and zigzag are all you'll use. I'd use the $43 to buy accessories, various feet, fabric, etc. OR the warranty through amazon. Ive not had a problem with mine, but others have reported issues after some use. The warranty insures your purchase.

I landed a new 4423 from Jet.com for $107 just in time for Christmas. Now I need to order the fabric for my tarp project.
