We are getting that storm right now. Big, wet, heavy snow. It is really pretty, but road conditions are hazardous on the backroads. Would be careful if it warms and refreezes.

The good news is we're getting serious winter weather at Roan High Knob. The bad news is the same serious winter weather is hitting the 159 miles of roads and highways from my front door to Carvers Gap, so I'm bailing.
Any thoughts for a RHKH&C 2016 part deux?
We got 4" of pure powder last nite and today, our weatherman who had been predicting we would get slammed this weekend, is now saying we will get nothing but a dusting in southern indiana and the weekend storm will track south of the Ohio River slaming the south, east coast, and northeast states before its over. Watch the track of this one cause we always get our worst snows especially when they track up out of the southwest and that is where its coming from. Stay safe.

1st snow dump was today. I'm in JC (1600 feet), just woke from my crazy sleep cycle to find 4-5 inches in the yard.
Most will melt here later today 1/21 and Friday morning (45F and 37F), it wont be melting (maybe some evaporating) at Roan, more is coming.
All roads should be 'good' (relative for that altitude and this time of year and four wheel drive) by Friday just in time for the next dumping.
So for those of us attending we should at min. have a foot of snow to tramp in and hang over! Something tells me at RHK there will be
more than a foot
Just got off the phone with the little lady at Carter County Dept. of Transportation.
As of right now 1/21 11:00 a.m. it is passable to Carvers (passable=all wheel/four wheel/winter driving skills), it has been
scraped one time BUT....
We are to get another dump starting tonight AND
She thinks a repeat of '92-93 for Friday night is possible.
Can you believe that?
In 92-93 I was at Ripshin with 3 feet of snow in the drive (Ripshin is roughly 4000).
The little lady could not/would not say that it would be scraped again on Friday.
So can you make it? Should you try?
Latest forecast I see is 8-9 inches Friday night for Bristol.
So if you are brave enough bring plenty of food for the possible extended
camping until DOT eventually gets there.
Fun!
I think we'll know the tale tomorrow morning.
I won't be there, but I can't wait to see the pics from this one!

I'm still in with plans to head out tomorrow morning so I have plenty of daylight. Might need refresher directions to carvers if anyone could help me out. Or at least to bobs dairyland to possibly meet up with someone there who has a functional memory
