    REPLACEMENT ROPE FOR GATHERED END

Machine washed an older GT Double Parachute in warm water today and on examination discovered the black ropes running thru the hem at each end had two spots where a pimple/blister like portion of the interior had popped through. Seems apparent that the integrity and weight holding strength should not be trusted.

Dutch sells 7/64" and 1/8" Amsteel so I was wondering if I could use that as a replacement for the original thicker/heavier rope that came with the GT,...what's your thought/opinion,...anyone, please.

    Thank you...

Amsteel continuous loop should work fine.

As suggested, go with a continuous loop. Watch this video to learn how to make an 8" loop, a good size to replace your stock thick and heavy ropes. With an average breaking strength of 1600 lbs the 7/64" Amsteel is more than enough.

If you go with Amsteel continuous loop there is no knot you just run it through doubled up and pass it through itself like a larks head knot. I did the same thing to my Grand Trunk Double, so much easier to deal with now.

Ok great and after looking at the existing factory loop I see it's simply larks headed
This should really lighten up things gonna go with becket hitch or marlin spike hitch with toggle

I've switched out the rope on all of my GE hammocks. Saves on weight and space. Just buy a hank of it from Jared at simply light and make/ splice it yourself. Even if you buy just a few feet it only costs a couple bucks.
