    carbon shafts as toggle s

I drilled a hole in the end of each one, and strung a loop of mason line through it. Then I attached one to each strap loop with a larks-head. Small, light, and always there, plus easy to pull out when I'm done.

    Hope that helps.

PS: nice photos--looks like a good day for a hike.
I wonder how carbon arrow shafts would work? Anyone tried this out?

My whoopie slings have been out with me on three trips, and I haven't had any problem finding trail sticks. I am amazed at how fragile sticks can be and still work. Even when a stick breaks in my hand similar to a pencil, its twin worked great holding me up.

I love the whoopie slings, and find myself making frequent micro adjustments . . . because I can!

Very well. I'm keeping all of my carbon scraps, though. Prices just jumped 30%!

I'll give away 2" - 3" aluminum shaft scraps for free!

    I made whoopie!!!

Running Feather came over the other day with his first whoopie sling, showed me how to make one, and that's all it took!

I made one and I'm happy to say, I've gone whoopie all the way!!!

I took some 5/8" aluminum tubing I had in the shop and made 2, 4" toggles for the Marlin Spike Hitch to my webbing. Total weight for the whole suspension system......5.5 ozs.!!! I love it!

I'm going to figure out how to take my severely modified ENO, and again modify it so it'll be rigged like a Warbonnet, with the suspension & ridgeline all in one.
Any suggestions, comments, or ideas, would be GREATLY appreciated.

I messed around with whoopie slings a bit a few days ago, and I like the general lightness of the system, but I also really like the "wrap around the tree, clip the biner, and pull the buckle into place" simplicity of the strap/ring buckle system. I'm still not sold on the whoopie sling, especially since I still have to carry webbing for the huggers no matter what.

No doubt, strap/ring buckle is the simplest solution. Just bulkier and heavier. Life is always about compromises.

I voted webbing (& ring buckles), and that is what I'll use for the foreseeable future mostly because I finally got it perfect JUST before the invention of the WS.

I've seen the slings, & like them. Eventually I'll switch, but for now I really like being able to set my hammock up in under 30 seconds & don't really want to learn a new system, even if it is as fast.

Ditto Doctari! I know I'll eventually hike down the WS trail, but why did WS have to come right when I got my webbing setup perfect?

That's great that you guys learned how to make whoopie together.
