I only have one set and they are the MountainGoat brand and they are awesome. I especially like the pocket on them to hold my line nice and neat.

Well it would depend on the width of the tarp. More material can lead to a bubble.

"Not mine" was referring to using elastic hair ties. The idea wasn't mine. Someone here on HF's had posted it a couple of years ago and I've been using them ever since. But I would still like to make snake skins and give them a try.

I have Mountain Goat and Simply light Designs tarp skins. Both are excellent but I prefer the SLD skins a little better. They have a handy little loop at the end I can clip my Stingerz to, which prevents them from going inside the skins.
    Both are top notch!

I use some generic ones i made for a hammock. They bubble in the midlle but only because they arent long enough. The mg ones seem pretty cool and not a horrible price. I kinda expected them to cost more.

+1 for both the MG skins and Helium33's rolling from both ends. I've left the ridge line in place and use the cute little pockets to tuck the left over. And TominMN is correct, the mesh doesn't help with drying if wet, especially if it's wet when rolled. I've ditched the HH skins had just tucked the hammock into stuff sack, one end to the other, to go top to bottom of sack. Thanks for the hair tie idea, will definitely try on next outing.

Yep, that makes perfect sense. Obviously I spoke before actually thinking about the process of "rolling up" the tarp before sliding the snake skins in place. Duh!

I also use the Wilderness Logics snake skins on my WB SuperFly. They are made of the mesh material, generously lengthed to allow quite a bit of overlap and I like the little pocket on each end to slip the end hardware of your ridge line in (Dutch clip, wasp, etc). The snake skins aren't really slippery like ones made of silnylon probably would be, so they are easy to stuff into the sack once they're over the tarp and they don't seem to add any noticeable bulk at all. I really like these a lot!

(Though they are mesh, I wouldn't load my tarp up wet in them. Somehow I doubt much drying would occur since the tarp folds/wrinkles up on itself as the skins slide over. I suspect the main advantage of mesh over silnylon is just ease of handling--not as slippery, I expect.)

Mountain Goat all the way. I've used henessey and a few others but started using MG mesh skins a few years ago. Recently tried the new one piece CF skin from Hammock Gear.

The HG CF and the MG actually weight within a few grams of each other. My new 10ft MG actually weights a few grams less.

Although the CF single sleeve from HG is very good. I still prefer the MG. The HG skin is a bit too "puffy" for my taste and you end up with quite a bit of material on one end versus more compact "less" material divided between the two ends. I'm now going to try the MG skins with the pockets on each end do see how I like that for storing my ridge line.

I do change out the cord and cord locks on the MG skins. I like using 1.1 or 1.25 dyneema and a mini cord lock.

So for my money, Mountain Goat is number one followed by Hammock Gear's Cuben Fiber single skin. I simply like the more compact look of the MG skins and I do like the fact that they allow your tarp to dry off. I wouldn't give that too much weight becasue the part of your tarp that is rolled up won't necesarily dry.

Both of these are good and I do like snake skins; Shrugs videon on skins is excellent!
