    Underquilt Suspension Ideas - Non-Conventional?

I want to get rid of the long, slightly fiddly, conventional underquilt suspension.
I'd like to be able to attach directly to the hammock.
I don't want anything permanent, and it should be easy to vent.

    Idea so far -

Where the blue lines represent a length of cord (stretchy or not?) permanently attached to the underquilt, with a mitten hook on the end that attaches to a corresponding loop on the hammock.

Not sure about the end channels. Maybe it doesn't need them and venting can be done by removing a clip or two.

I've tried to find other threads on this without much success. Most generally talk about conventional suspension, or are old, different, etc. Let me know if you're aware of any.

Could this work? How would you go about this?

Doesn't look like an improvement. If you're going to reinvent the wheel, you might want to start with "conventional" suspension and work from there rather than throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

    Maybe not. But why?

I have been. That's why I'm doing this in the first place.
I'm trying to look at it 'from scratch.'

You would dismiss this particular idea after deciding that it has no merit?
No changes, ideas.. just throw it out?

Looks to me like several quilt hooks hung asymmetrically. Some have said that you can get away with two if you can get the primary suspension right. One for your shoulder, one for your opposite knee.

If you can address the accordion effect where the quilt collapses in along its length and keep the quilt up on the hammock I'd say this is pretty interesting.

You probably want some elastic or draw cord to cinch up the head & foot end.

+1 to all these points. Heave you seen Dutch's quilt hooks? They work well.

Hey man, hang in there and figure it out. It'll be interesting to see what you come up with! and maybe take criticism with a grain of salt!

Quilt hooks could be used, but I'd probably just use some small grosgrain and sew on little loops.
It's more about the concept than specific hardware.

I think the accordion effect could be eliminated by having the lines away from center pull towards their end.

Yes, I think there would still be channeled, cinchable ends.

Absolutely! I love criticism! I need it to be specific though..

Tell me why my idea sucks, what might improve it, and not just that it sucks.

I mean, unless it really does just totally suck. But I think this might go somewhere, providing the lengths of each line can be set easily, stay there, and not be fiddly. Could be too difficult.

+1 I don't remember ever seeing something exactly like that tried. Interested to see how it works. Good luck. Hard to know how things will work until you make it and test it out.
