Question Winter tarps for Hennessy Hammocks (Side tie-outs)

    All,

    Got a question for you.

I'm looking at building a DIY winter tarp with sides and doors. Our hennessy hammocks have side tie outs and I'm looking for your experience on how to tie out these sides when inclosed in a winter tarp.

If you have any pictures, experience, or ideas please let me know.

    Thanks

Rather than a winter tarp, it is lighter, and probably warmer, just to use the HH Overcover. If you use the SuperShelter as your under-insulation with a space blanket you'll have all the wind protection you'll need.

Even if you do use a winter tarp, you don't have to use the side tie-outs.

Its Vancouver ....it never gets cold down there
Forget about the tie outs on the hammock and the HH Hex tarp works well in winter.....survived our 3' snowfall last Feb here.
A winter cotton canvas sock works well below -5c
Also using the natural environment your hanging in to increase the protection level against the elements is another option to work with.
Anyways ....research tarps, oogle around youtube etc and take the concepts and build it for you and what you want to achieve from the tarp...then go have fun using it

I never used the side tie-outs on my HH Hex during winter. Even if I did, I don't know how that would have anything to do with a winter tarp.

It's the tie-outs on the hammock...

Correct that we don't have to use the side tie outs. Just keeps it more comfortable with them extended. Less mesh on the face, etc.

We will be doing some northern hunting trips later this year if we can fit it in and I'd like to use the full size tarp for my son and myself to spend time under in less than perfect conditions. Also acts as a gtg shelter should something go wrong, broken leg, etc.

I can live without the tie outs, just looking for ideas.

I was thinking about making Velcro flaps on the sides of the tarp that allows one to slide the tie outs through. Maybe I'll mock something up with a cheap tarp first before cutting sil. I'm picturing the triangular vents on tent vestibules.

You see this on the mec.ca wanderer tent. The orange material top centre.

    Thanks all.

Even when I used the tie-outs (briefly) they didn't come anywhere near the tarp. Seems like you would have to have really long tie-outs at a bizarre angle (and the tarp pitched really low and tight) to even get the two to interfere with each other.

I usually use the tie outs on my hennessey with various tarps. I'm not sure what kind of problems you're trying to avoid. I just stake out as normal.
