Halloween Hunger Hang at Merchants Mill Pond State Park 2015

Epic hang. Even with all the last minute family emergencies we still had 30 hangers present and several visitors including the parents of some boy scouts ( as well as some boy scouts ) come by to check us out. The State Park folks even came by and spent some time taking photos and I got one of them to try out a hammock.

Just want to thank everyone who was able attend and to the vendors who were able to donate items for the raffle.

Hotlips and Kingsford did a great job of of keeping us well fed and since this was Halloween we also had lots of candy.

Starfish Comet went all out with her pumpkin carving and decorations. Her hammock set up had more Halloween stuff than most houses. Just hope the pictures come out.

Thanks to meckelangelo and his wife Beth for coming down and joining us and bringing their new palace to show off. Meckelangelo needs to change his name to PyroMeck as he kept the fire well stocked with wood.

More thanks to Tacoma96 for the fire wood even though he could not make it and to Cass for bringing it and to Timberlake who even with a case of pneumonia made it to the hang and brought a load of wood.

Cass52 made it too the hang and was able to get a few of the killer monkey owls to start sounding off but we think PyroMeck scared them off with the large fire he kept going.

Thanks to all the brand new first time hangers who came out and spent the weekend with us. I know two of them have already started ordering hammocks...not wasting anytime.

I want to thank all the vendors who were able to donate gear and or Gift Certificates to the raffle. The Great Outdoor Provision Co not only sent a raffle donation, they also sent a check made out to The Friends of Merchants Mill Pond. We had SuperGirl ( Dr Luptons's daughter ) draw the winning raffle tickets after she promised not to use her X Ray vision and her brother also helped with drawing tickets, although her father and mother did win a lot ( could be because they bought a lot tickets ).

What really impressed me was that several of the hangers whose names were being picked more than others started passing on the chance to pick the raffle table clean by asking me to pick another name and or some of them would ask someone else whose name had not been called to go up and get something.

Weather was great. A few skeeters out the first day and about 20 minutes of light sprinkles the first night. Thursday got down close to 50, Friday got down to low mid 40's and Sat night was back in the 50's. It did start to rain as we were leaving.

The Terminator and I got to go canoeing. Did not see any gators but we did see lots of turtles and some really big ones on the logs that were not the least bit afraid of us. After 30 minutes of paddling we had to return as my back and leg were hurting ( its why I sold my kayak ). Had fun out on the water but wish we could have paddled longer.

I still have one Large Blue and about 3 XL Hang Shirts left if anyone wants to get one. $17 each or 2 for $30 and S&H will run about $5 for Priority mail.

I have to still go thru and add up the raffle ticket sales and see how much we made from the T Shirt Sales and once I have it figured up I will post the info here and will be sending the $$ to the Friends of Merchants Mill Pond.

Next step is to review the pictures I took and see if any came out and post them here.

Loved the hang and the people. I always enjoy meeting new hangers, and I got to meet several. Starfish_comet can carve a mean pumpkin folks. She carved several of them just to prove it. DRLupton's wife did a cool 3D carving in a pumpkin as well. We kept nice and warm around the fire from wood sent by people who couldn't even come to hang, must be NC, they are the best. Was good to see Wellhungwaffle again, and to meet his family. We were also able to give a new trail name to one of our members.

Nice pics OBXh2o. Thanks for sharing. Thank you again for the ham and coleslaw. Those made for a great lunch for everyone. I for one appreciate your generosity.

    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

One of my worst nightmares! A couple of my ex-wives showed up for the hang.

Beth and I made it home safe and sound. We had a really great weekend. Words cannot describe how awesome this crowd is. Thank you to Gunner76 (and Terminator) for organizing this hang! Huge thank you to HotLips and Kingsford for the time and money that they sacrificed to keep us well fed. We simply cannot say thank you enough for their generosity! And the food... CoreyR, your cobblers were also awesome! I really enjoyed spending time around the fire with everyone. I haven't stopped laughing yet, I'm serious. Now I just need to work on dropping "y'all" from my vocabulary before work tomorrow...

Here are a few pictures that I got from the weekend.

CAS52, this one is for you...
