    Superfly pitch height question

I'll start this with, I'm short. 5'4" with short arms (imagine a tiny T-Rex). Depending on available trees I have a hard time reaching high enough to hang a tarp over the hammock.

I currently use an Edge. Due to its increased size do I need to hang a Superfly significantly higher than an Edge?

    Thanks.

I'm wondering if you might want to put this thread in a more generic place(?) Camping Hammocks or Weather Protection(?) The SF is not unique in this regard. There are tons of folks around your height. Pretty common height for the ladies. Folks must be dealing with these issues all the time and I have to believe there are some pretty creative solutions out there. Afterall, the hammock suspension is most often even higher than the tarp suspension.

I don't own an Edge but have a few Superflys. When I did look into buying an Edge it was with the intention of using it in the summer. A brave move in the UK.

Suffice to say, I didn't bother.

Presumably, you bought the Superfly for more weather protection? I'd say pitch it at the same height to begin with. Lower it as needed, the only limiting factor being the UQ scuffing the ground or losing loft.. from your pack if stored underneath.

I think pitch height is a matter of personal taste. I don't like to set up my other gear hunched over so I'll set my tarp at head height unless It's looking like a downpour. If you can get your tarp at a comfortable height and your hammock isn't dragging the ground then it's "right" for you.

I'm 5'6" and usually pitch my tarps around my eye level which is usually a good height for most weather I experience. The SF is a big enough tarp to allow for some give and take in terms of set up height. A smaller tarp would require a little lower set up to ensure good coverage. Can't imagine you would have difficulty setting up a SF at an adequate tarp height at 5'4".

I have both an Edge and a Superfly. If pitched at the same height, your Superfly will either reach closer to the ground, (great for additional wind protection) or be pitched with a slightly wider base (providing more protected area beneath). As the ridgeline length is the same with either tarp, there should be no need to hang a Superfly Higher than the Edge.

    Good Luck

Thanks guys. I don't have a Superfly yet. Thinking about getting one but wanted this question answered first. This helps.
