choose yor head end, take the cord out of that end. On mine i was able to slide a 1"x 3' oak dowel through the end, drilled a hole about 2 inches from each end,run cord from each hole back to a carabiner. Make sure the dowel rod is level when you hang it ( paid 6 dollars for oak dowel at Lowes ). This takes the shoulder squeeze out and i sleep good on my side. This is the only way i sleep in my hammock, my son and nephew use the same system. This is a very inexpensive way to see if the bridge will work you. I still leave my foot end closed. Good luck and happy hanging.

The only way to try before you buy would be to go to a local hang, provided that there are hangers who use a bridge hammock. Or see if anybody owning a bridge lives near you and lets you test it. Otherwise you'll just have to order one. The risk shouldn't be too great, though, because a) quite a few cottage vendors have a generous return policy (at least Warbonnet does) and b) cottage gear sells in no time for close to the original price here on the forum.

While this will definitely change the lay of a gathered end hammock and simulates a typical "yard" hammock suspended from bars at both ends, it will not give you any idea of how a bridge hammock feels. Bridge hammocks are suspended by webbing/rope running the full length along both sides as the spreader bars only hold the sides apart.

One of the biggest group hangs of the year around here is next weekend. You can camp all weekend or just hike in for an afternoon. Folks will generally let you try out there hammocks....https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...lanning-thread

The sign up sheet indicates there will be at least a couple of hangers with Warbonnet Ridgerunners there.

Where are you located in IN?
