    Uwharrie 100

Our troop decided on a short backpacking trip to Uwharrie this past weekend. Weather was really nice (if not a little warm) but very little water along the trail. We had 3 adults and 3 scouts decide to go with hammocks and all loved it (two were first timers). Great trip.

We were surprised to find the Uwharrie 100 was starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. We saw the first runner at about 8:30 a.m. and cheered on the 75+ runners all weekend. We heard distant cheers somewhere around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday so that must have been the first runner to finish the 100 miles.

You never know what you might encounter along the trails...

We got a lot of praise and appreciation for the boy scouts cheering them on. I was one of the race volunteers at the start finish. The runners really appreciated the boy scout cheering section. Give them all a big thank you and let them know that the runners really appreciated the encouragement. The run is at the same time every year. This was the second year of the event and it was a really good one a lot of competition between runners. The first place of the 100 mile came in at 25h 4m mark and the first place in the 100K came in at 13h 50ish min mark. That is 5 figure 8's for the 100mile and 3 for the 100k. It starts at 6am Saturday and runs till 6pm Sunday, a 36hr cutoff. Thank you again

I'll let the scouts know. We had a lot of fun cheering on the runners (and admiring them!)
