Newbie with beginner questions about Hammocks

    Guys/Gals.
I'm new. I've been "studying" the forums and this is what I think I want. I'm a side sleeper so I'm drawn to the Warbonnet Ridge Runner hammock. I sleep cold so here are my questions. I was thinking that I would want a WBRR double layer. I was thinking I could use possibly use something like the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Xtherm in the bottom sleeve plus an under quilt. My question is will the sleeping pad make the under quilt useless or is that a really warm combination?

I use that combo all the time together . I pair my UGQ ambush quilt with an insulated klymit v pad. The quilt is a 0 dg so it's plenty warm but I like the pad for the flatter lay and comfort. Using both will definitely get you down to lower temps.

Most hammocks you can lay on side, i use a pad as well and a under quilt... The pad helps the hammock lay flatter and also more comfortable... Yes it will add to your warmth... If your new there are so many different places you can buy and under quilt and a top quilt.. Jacks R Better makes some nice stuff, and so does Hammock Gear.

If you do decide to go with a bridge hammock I would suggest purchasing an UQ that's made for it specifically. The three im aware of that are made for the ridgerunner are warbonnet, UGQ and AHE. My UGQ and AHE quilts fit perfect with no fiddling around what so ever to set them up.

I use the Klymit V Luxe. At 30" wide and 77" (I Think) long it fills the pad sleeve and gives me complete coverage underneath. Heavier than smaller options but makes a very comfortable and warm sleep. I haven't had to try it yet but if I can't stay warm enough with the pad I will add a PLUQ (Poncho liner Under Quilt). Yes, the effects are cumulative.

Your insulation will add up. Insulation slows heat transfer so both the pad and Uq will have a combined effect.

I have a question for bridge hammock owners, has anyone exceeded the weight limit of 250 on one? and how has that worked out?

I am right at 250 lbs. and I would love to get a bridge hammock but I'm just really cautious about spending that kind of money and damaging it soon after buying it....

Im like a half side sleeper....half the time on my back....half the time on the side. I worried about this too when I first started hanging. I found that you an sleep on your side in pretty much any hammock....just gotta find that right spot.

I mainly sleep on my side at home in a bed, but tend to sleep on my back most of the time in my Ridgerunner. As my camp mates have noted due to my thunderous snoring! I like to consider the snoring as a bear deterrent and to my camp mates I say...you're Welcome!
