I grew up on the east coast, used to the Oaks, Maples, Pines, etc of the eastern seaboard.
When I got into Hammock camping I was living in TX, trees are generally even smaller in TX than the east coast.
Now I live in WA state, and it's funny because I could appreciate from pictures and people mentioning it on the boards, often as a throw away comment, that "We in the west have to use really big straps".
Well I just went out to the Olympic Peninsula, with the family. We were mostly RV camping but I did hang a bit, and even got my 9yr old daughter to hang with me, for part of the night at least. On this trip we visited quite a few campsites, to see where we might like to go next time. I found this one site I thought would be AWESOME place to hang. Check out the size of trees I would be hanging from though. The kids are for scale, right and left are 4, middle is 9. And then a big old rand daddy tree, with me in front. I am 6'2 330 with a 58 inch chest.
So yeah if you ever wondered why the West Coast guys talk about 15 foot Tree Straps....
