Zing it vs Reflective chord weight

Would I be considered a gram weenie if I replaced the reflective chord used for ridge line and guy lines with zing it? Is there an actual weight difference?

I bet you could compare weights on Dutch's site, I believe he carries both.

I see no downside to glowire. It's non reflective until your light hits it, light enough that I always carry some extra.

Honestly I think even asking the question qualifies you as a gram weenie. Welcome to the club!

It's probably a bad sign that I can pull this up in a spreadsheet I have handy...

2mm Glowire is 38% heavier than 2.2 mm zing it and 83% heavier than 1.75 mm zing it. Of course, for the amount of line we're talking about, it's definitely gram weenie territory. The Glowire is right at 1g per foot.

For the amount of line you're likely to use in pitching a tarp, the difference in weight works out to ~0.75 oz.

Am I a gram weinie if I accept the penalty for Glowire but only for two of the guy lines that I put in porch mode; while everything else is done in Zing-it? I figure I only need to see the lines from the entry side of the hammock. Boy, have I over thought this!

How much weight would you really save by doing that?
I've had Glowire on every tie out point and still tripped over them.

I'm literally blind in one eye and have 70% vision in the other. GloWire just doesn't do anything for me - if you can't see the hammock and tarp then why the heck would you see the guylines?

I use Glowire when I want to be seen and zing it when I don't.

I trip over all cordage without consideration or prejudice.

I can never see reflective tracers unless focusing my light on them trying to get them to reflect. If my light is on them I can see them, if not, I cannot. They also seem to be no help in finding my hammock in the dark. I've even hung my Reflectix Cozy and Sit Pad on the lines and seldom pick them up in the beam of my headlamp either.

What I always see are the reflective logo tapes stitched to the straps of my Golite Pinnacle pack. They also set off night vision equipment like crazy.
