    Snugpak Hammock Cocoon

If this is the wrong forum, please be gentle :-)

I wanted to share a deal I found on Groupon for the Snugpak Hammock Cocoon @ $60.
Not sure about posting links so I won't do so. Just head to Groupon and do a search.
I just bought some for me and my boys and will try them out during our winter campouts.
I'll respond back with a review.

The weight listed on that is over 4lbs (67 oz). No way I would lug that around backpacking. I hope you're backyard/car camping.

Slept in mine for first time last night...35 degrees and I stayed warm and toasty! It IS a little heavy for backpacking but for car camping or even short hikes, it is IDEAL! I am very pleased! I've seen no comfort ratings so I slept in what I had on, jeans, long-sleeve tee, and fleece jacket just to test it out. No other insulation was used and I stayed comfy all night...no cold spots and no squirming to get underquilt "just right". The outer water-repellant shell worked great as there was a very heavy dew.

Heavy yes, but what a price for top and bottom insulation. $60....thats about £40. For that price i'd have one just for the sake of it lol

Sorry if this has been discussed in other threads, but I couldn't find it.

I will be winter camping in a hammock for the first time this year. I have never used an under quilt or peapod/cocoon, so I am wondering if there is room inside a cocoon to lay on a diagnal. If not, how about an under quilt? I am specifically looking at the two options available from Snugpak.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Clancyb424, there is another thread about the snugpak underblanket in the underquilt subsection of this forum. Lots of good info.

Consensus is that it's cheap, warm down to about freezing, a bit bulky, and did I mention cheap? About $52 on Amazon.

Thanks, I just read that thread...

I didn't intend to hijack this thread, but I was specifically wanting to know if laying diagonally was possible in either the cocoon or the under quilt, and that info was not covered in the other thread you mentioned.

    Thanks again,

    Brendan

Fortunately I have the snugpak underblanket and can answer that half for you.... yes a diagonal lay is possible, I'm 6'1" and can lay fine. If I was much taller it would be harder though.

I can't comment on the cocoon, however it does look like it's roomy enough.

I slept diagonally in the Snugpak Hammock Cocoon with no prob. I'm a big guy and it is plenty large enough for me. The cocoon is tapered toward the foot end so you must ensure you don't get in it backwards! As I stated above, I slept out in 35 degree weather with no other insulation...if it gets colder, there's room to use a blanket or even a sleeping bag inside the cocoon.

PLENTY of room in the SnugPak Underblanket wrapped hammock to sleep diagnally. Don't know about in the cocoon, but definitely can using the underblanket. The underblanket is generously roomy.
