    Asym hammock question

I used the search function but didn't find the answer so... Most of the Asym hammocks I have seen online have the pull outs. What happens if you don't use the pull outs? I am guessing that zippers would be more difficult to open but I don't really know. I have never seen one in person. I have actually never seen anyone camping in any type hammock in the eight years I have been hanging.

I can't speak to the other brands, but on the Dream Hammock models using tie-outs are mostly optional.

When I'm hanging in a 10ft x 60" hammock, I rarely use the tie-outs because my towering 5'7" height fills out the hammock nicely and holds the netting fairly taught. When I've used an 11ft hammock and/or one of the really wide ones, I need the tie-outs to hold the hammock open and keep the netting from collapsing in on me. The zippers pretty much operate the same with the exception of possibly sometimes holding the zipper straight so the sliders operates smoothly.

The tie-outs make the Warbonnet Blackbird more roomy and make the shelf easier to use, but it is not necessary to use them. Even without using the tie-outs the zippers function just fine.

Most scouts in our troop use ENOs, but there are 3 that use Hennessy and Warbonnet. Last weekend I saw someone using an asym at one of our stateparks so they are out there just not as popular as ENOs.

I haven't found that it's more difficult to open zippers when not using the tie-outs. I have used Dream Hammocks, Warbonnets and Hennessys. The only thing the tie-outs do is keep the bug net out of your face and increase the room in the hammock. Some people seem to find a position in their integrated hammocks that has the same effect as the tie-outs - so maybe you're lucky and won't need them. I prefer using them.

I have a wide one... They're nice for positioning the hammock when getting in.
Once I'm in however, for me they're not really needed because I'm filling up the volume of the hammock and the fabric gets some tension on it.
Do I use them all the time? No.

I hardly ever use my tie-outs on my hennesey. I always end up tripping over them. The tie-outs do give you a more open hammock but I don't think they have any effect on the zipper.

As others have said the pullouts seem to be mostly optional. I guess it effects the easiness of unzipping or using velcro, but the only reason they ever seem to be there in my opinion is simply to make the inside seem more spacious.

+1 on Sunny Bear's comment. I also have the Hennessy, don't use the tie-outs and have no trouble with the zippers.

I seldom use the tie-outs and when I do, it is usually only the one opposite from the side I use for enter/exit (like the "shelf" side of the WarBonnet). I haven't noticed any difficulty with zippers.

Like most have said, the tie-out's are pretty much optional.

One downside to using them is they can impact the fit of an under quilt negatively.
