Hey all, might buy a uqp for my under quilt. Could you guys share any advantages or disadvantages to an Under quilt protector. I plan to buy the cheaper of the uqp that 2QZQ offer... are the more expensive options really that much better or worth the money?

One of the better hammock related expenditures you can make. Use mine year round. Easy to vent or hang to the side if it gets too hot out. Great to keep in warmth and your quilts stay clean.

2QZQ's UQP is a standard part of my gear. It helps to stop heat being pulled off your UQ. It helps create a micro climate between you and the weather. It also gives you a place to store a few light items like down sweater, hat etc. Its light weight and i don't see a down side.

I use my UQP year round. I am short so there is not a lot of distance between my quilt and the ground so it does a good job of protecting the expensive down. It also reduces CBS from wind. My experience says it adds 5 to 10F to the rating of my quilt in colder temps and if it's warmer out, the UQP ends up being the only "quilt" I will use under me. Last but not least is because of the UQP I can hang in some place that others won't because of lack of protections. I don't have to spend near as much time making my site selection.
Just to be clear, I have to breathable UQP as I did not want to deal with the possible condensation issues of the non breathable item.

I also have a breathable 2QZQ UQP. It goes everywhere with me. I hang/live in a very dusty environment and it really helps keep my UQ clean. It was money well spent for me.
Well, you already know the advantages, or you wouldn't plan to buy one. My main reason for using one is to better keep the warm air in my underquilt. I also feel much less of a draft, since it pulls up quite high if cinched tight. I've never had a problem with dirty or wet underquilts, but it's a nice bonus to know that there's an extra layer of protection.Originally Posted by Zac.Files

That depends entirely on you. I already carry a heavy pack, and considering how much money you usually have to pay to shave weight, I didn't think twice - 1 ounce less only costs $7. Now compare that with a Cuben tarp upgrade... If you car camp, you won't need to count ounces. But if you plan to carry your gear a lot, you might be glad to have spent an additional $7.
Donna quickly shipped me one back in September for a week-long trip into the BWCA. Boy, am I glad I had it. The wind never let up all week. Overnight temps got down to 31°, and I didn't worry for a minute about the breeze robbing any heat. Great piece of gear.
UQP are a great thing. They help a LOT in the wind. If I am setting up in a damp area, they help to keep my UQ from becoming damp. You can't go wrong with an UQP
In hot weather, a UQP as an UQ is a very lightweight option.
I use mine often enough that it stays attached to my hammock when packed.
I made two for my wife and I. Used them two weeks ago on a 5 day canoe trip. My wife got a bit chilled the first night. Second night she added the UQP and said she was much warmer. I only used mine one night, and it was with my brand new quilt, so I can't say if there is a difference myself. But for the minimal weight and space they take up, they'll be coming on most trips.
