If you put the small pad for your feet inside your sleeping bag/top quilt foot box, it will stay in place.
And you can consider a DIY knotty mod to keep things in the hammock if they are slipping out. Course bug nets help as you know.
Good points! Since it's my girlfriend's hammock, I'll probably get another Dutch hammock, but this time with the knotty mod. I should definitely give the smaller pad a try, it would be one of my last obvious ways to save weight (besides my backpack). Thanks a ton for the suggestion.

Ah, Algonquin in the fall. I can't say I've ever had a bad trip there. The days you were there would have had fantastic weather; unfortunately colours didn't peak until Oct. 4th or so (I was lucky enough to be there both weekends). I agree with campergf23 that it isn't the most scenic trail though the big beaver dam is pretty impressive generations of work. One trip we took the time to hike up the pond past the 8 or 9 tiers of dams. Still is one of the 'must do' trails in the park.

I've been putting my pad inside my footbox lately. Doesn't go anywhere and can get away with it being smaller since it goes wherever your footbox goes.

I'm always amazed at how lightweight people can get but looking at your list it really seems doable (though 3 days with only 4 pounds of food).

p.s. the bear spray wouldn't be a high priority for me in backcountry Algonquin. According to park naturalists this was a bad season for bears but generally limited to the campgrounds where people are more careless about food.

Algonquin in the fall is beautiful. I figured we went a bit early this year for the colours - we were scared off by the Highlands trail last year when too many leaves were on the trail, making it extremely difficult to hike. I think I know which beaver dam you're referring to, that was crazy! I said the same thing, that must have taken so many years to make, very cool.

Ok, you've convinced me. I need to put my pad inside the footbox, it seems to work for people. It would be great to save that weight, my pad is huge right now.

My ultralight setup is completely doable, but it cost a lot of money to put together lol. It took a lot of trial and error to get to this point. I had lots of food though, no issues there! Everything was dehydrated and quite calorically dense.

    Thanks for the comment, Keg.
