VIDEO (5:15): Ultralight Backpacking in Algonquin Provincial park (Ontario, Canada)

A few friends and I headed up to Algonquin for a 4 night trip on the Western Uplands backpacking trail. Most of us are hammock campers, and I was ultralight with a base weight at 9.97lbs

I excluded a few pieces of gear for this trip to get under 10lbs - I went without a raincoat, rain kilt, pack cover, and a couple other things. The bear spray alone is 300g (10.5oz), but I can't convince myself to leave it at home. I also include the weight of my camera gear and extra batteries. I also used my girlfriend's Dutchwear PolyD hammock for the first time. It took some getting used to, but it was very comfortable. I usually have a built-in bug net like on my Blackbird XLC and Hammeck Netty. My ENO Doublenest doesn't have a built-in bug net, but it is wider so things don't fall out as easily. Since I use a pad on my feet along with my 3/4 Yeti, it was slipping out of the hammock a bit. I almost got used to it though. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

I liked the timelapses too, I'm going to have to include more of those in future videos! I used Framelapse Pro for Android because it has a sleep feature, which turns the screen off while it's recording. $3.72 saved be from carrying an extra battery, which saves me pack weight!

I just did a similar trip over thanksgiving weekend. Hiked to Maggie lake the first night, stopped at oake lake at the same spot you did for lunch, and Ramona lake the second night, looks like you stayed there the first night.

We were actually there Sept 24-27, I just took a while to make the video and post it. Oak Lake looked beautiful, I kept wishing we could stay there. You're right - we went to Ramona on night one because we did the loop counter-clockwise. It's a nice trail, just not a lot of views (lots of trees). The lakes are always the best part. Algonquin Highlands trail had a lot more views, probably due to the elevation. Did you enjoy the trail?

I enjoyed it, I thought for the most part it was a kinda boring trail... Like it was nice but there wasn't any amazing views or anything like that. I was kinda disappointed with Ramona lake... It was just so small and dead, the sights were all small. The fall colours were amazing! I think the website said that they where at peak when I was there.

We ran into a group of people that suggested walking a little further north and staying at thunder lake instead of Ramona. If I do this loop again I'll defiantly do that, or keep hiking to Guwesku lake. The hike from Ramona to Guwesku only takes ~ an hour and it's a lot nicer of a lake.

I'll defiantly look into the highlands trail, but I think next year I want to do the la cloche silhouette trail in Killarney. Looks beautiful there.
