    Tight ridge line

    Hi guys

I had a question about my ridge line. I am using zing it for the ridgeline and I was wondering how tight is your ridge line when you are in the hammock. My hammock is 124 inches long, I made a non adjustable RL that is 105" long. I like mine a hair over 83.%. I just want to know if my RL is supost to be way tight when I am hanging.

Any and all feedback would be appreciated!

It probably won't hurt anything if it's tight, but most of us like a little give. If you lengthen your suspension by an inch, the RL will loosen up a bit. However, if the hammock is now less comfortable, you can just make a 106" RL. That will give allow you to get the same hang comfort every time and you won't be worried about having a guitar string RL.

I adjust my suspension to the point that the ridgeline is straight, but not under a lot of extra tension beyond that. I using Zing-it also for my Ridgeline, but I've seen quite a few Zing-it ridgelines snap due to people putting too much tension on the suspension.

I like to reference Brandon from Warbonnet. Just tight enough to bend it close to 90 degrees with your thumb and index finger.

i use amsteel 7/64 for my ridge line, and its generally tight as a guitar string since i like to keep as close to my tarp as possible without hitting it. but its a bit stronger than zingit i believe. 1500# straps and 1600lb amsteel.

I read that recently somewhere and I've since had a question that maybe can be answered.
I'm guessing this quarter turn is being done while the hammock is empty right?

No, it's actually while you are in it.

    Oh wow.
So the suspension would need to be lengthened then?

Yes. Lengthening your suspension a bit will decrease the tension on the SRL. You may find yourself with trees that are farther apart than is ideal and you cannot get you tree straps high enough on the trees. In this case the SRL will be very tight but your sag will be maintained which is the point of the SRL.

Little bit of threadjacking but, can I use titanium dutch hooks in a hammock ridgeline or will they fail?
