Jimbeam,
I modified the diygearsupply ix underquilt pattern, found here:
https://diygearsupply.com/diy-guides...q-lowres/#main
This pattern is very clear and easy to follow.
Obviously I had only one layer, which I made 48" wide by cutting off two rows on the short side of the throw. I then sewed these extra rows onto the long end of the throw for a length of 75-76". I made the dart depth approximately 1/4 of the length of the uq, so 18".
Supplies:
1 down throw from Costco
3 cord locks
shock cord
grosgrain for making the shock cord channels: 21 feet approximately
thread
If you're going to cut into the down throw to modify the size like I did, remember to stitch two parallel lines of stitches (as many stitches per inch as you can get) running the length of the cut you're planning on making and about 1/4" apart, then cut between them. That way, when you cut into the fabric, you don't get a million feathers everywhere.
HTH
Awesome thank you
Forgot to mention - this is a very quick & easy project. I just made another one today in 3 hours. I documented the process of making the second quilt with lots of pics, so let me know if you'd like to see them.
Yes please I would like to see your pictures as I am a very visual person and new to DIY
If you want the quickest & easiest mod, just sew grosgrain ribbon (either loops or channels) around the perimeter. Run shock cord through the loops/channels & you've got a nice UQ. Here's mine.

Here is a shot of the two rows of stitching, between which I cut the throw. I use high-contrast thread so the stitching is easy to see. This stitching will be hidden underneath the grosgrain channels. I was sewing at about 21-22 stitches per inch.

Here I have marked a dart, 3" wide at the base and 19" long. I used chalk to mark the dart on the wrong side. After sewing, any remaining chalk can easily be wiped away. Remember to always mark and stitch darts on the wrong side of the fabric.

Here is a shot of the uq, wrong side facing up, with all darts sewn. You can see how adding the darts makes the flat fabric more curved at the ends. This helps the uq conform better to the shape of the hammock.

Here you can see the uq folded in half, right-side out. The curved seam of the darts are visible at the ends.

This is a shot of the finished uq, with orange grosgrain channels sewn around all edges. The short ends have shock cord sewn into the channel on one side and a cordlock on the other. The suspension shock cord is run through the channels on the long end, with a cord lock on one side.

And finally, just for comparison, here is a side-by-side shot of the Costco down throw uq and an ix (insultex) three-quarter length uq I had previously made.

HTH!
Thanks for the pictures and tutorial. Once I get a new thread injector (mine decided to retire after 30 years and 2 generations of family use), I plan on doing something like this for my bedroom hammock.
By the way, that orange grosgrain looks amazing. It really pops the quilt. Great job!

I considered starting a new thread, but decided to just post here ( I hope this isn't considered hijacking thread. If so I apologize, and ask moderator to move/remove).
I called Costco in Greensboro NC today to ask if they had quilts in stock. I gave man the SKU #, and he checked. He said the next shipment wasn't getting to "the depot" until November 25, and it would take a few more days to get them to the stores. so good news is: more are coming! Bad news- it won't be soon....
Thought y'all would like to know.
