Gear Sling

I was watching some YouTubes (thanks to all who produce these videos - I have learned a ton from them) anyway I noticed a couple of hammocks had gear slings under them...anyone use a gear sling outside/under your hammock??

I have one that I made DIY. It saves me from having to bend over all the time to get stuff out of the pack.

I just threw up post about a small gear "hammock" I made this afternoon out of an old tent bag. It's over in the DIY forum.

I'm also planning on getting the local seamstress to make me a "belly-band" for my AMOK Draumr. It will just be a length of 1" webbing draped from the suspension on each side and passing under the hammock. Each side will have a half a dozen or so different sized, daisy-chain style loops on it to hang stuff like my boots up under the protection of both the tarp and the hammock. You could probably accomplish the same thing with a length of line and some overhand knots.... That's how I did proof of concept. I just want something a little nicer, and more professional looking.

I've wondered the same - most people seem to just strap packs to a tree or leave it on the ground, but after watching a few youtubes, I really like the idea. It can't add THAT much weight. ENO is the only one that I've seen on the market. - eno-underbelly-gear-sling
I was contemplating making something similar, but adding some shock-cord and a bit more of a lip to almost form a pocket.

How tough would it have to be? Would you use 420D or just something lighter? looking at ripstop by the roll

I mostly use a Jacks R Better Gear Hammock/Pack Cover for me, but I also have and use several of the 5-Below hammocks. They are small, gathered-end hammocks with a channel on each end. If I hang it under my hammock, I run a whoopie sling through it on each end, and attach it to my hammock suspension on each end with a micro-biner. But I also love to hang it inside of my hammock, right on the RL, using a prussik at each end. I'm 6'5", and it doesn't even get in my way at all.

I have a WBB and got the ENO gear hammock. Didn't work with my UQ on.

I've never really needed a gear sling but I have used my 2QZQ under quilt protector to hold my quilts while I used my hammock as a chair to cook my meals.

I made mine out of spare rip stop nylon.
Hem in some shock cord on the long sides that you can cinch up.
Sew generous 3" or so open channels on the short ends and you have a versatile piece of gear.

A nice and cheap gear sling is a kids hammock from 5 Below. They are rated at 250 lbs and are the same size as my ENO gear sling. Just alot cheaper! Some of their hammock have a mesh in them which i like so if you put your shoes in it, the dirt can fall out.

I just checked with our store here in Maine, and while they're out of it as a seasonal item, the chick was nice enough to say she could request it from one of their Florida stores.
At $5, it is hard to think it could be a bad buy.
