    New campsites opening near Chicago

Apparently you have to walk into the camping sites. If so, this is a good thing. Any place I have seen around here that requires anything other then driving up to the site is typically empty. This is close enough for me to bike to. Very excited! Cook County has spent an incredible amount of money restoring the forest preserves. They've cleared out sections of invasive species, added some awesome bike trails and now this. I know it is a small thing to others that live in states with an abundance of outdoors, but for around here it's fantastic. Palos FP is a great area to hike and bike in. If you are local, check it out.

They have also opened up other sites around the city. Go to http://fpdcc.com/camping/

This is exciting news! Camping in northern Illinois is really limited and the few private camp grounds that we do have available is not my idea of camping.

    It is a little expensive
Get lost in the woods and find yourself again. A vacation,to me, is working with your hands and surviving because of the fruits of your labor. In the business world I teach;in the natural world I learn.

It's awesome that there are some more options available. But it seems like the cost of the tent sites are a little disproportionate to the cost of the other lodging options. A basic tent site (pad, fire ring, picnic table) is $35/night and a 10-person, air-conditioned/heated cabin with ceiling fans and a private bathroom is $100/night?
