Tuxachanie Trail De Soto NF Mississippi, information on trail conditions please.

Anyone hike this lately. Looking for a three day two night backpack for our troop. This is about the same distance from us as Kisatchie. We hike in Kisatchie a few times a year so looking to change it up.

We like to keep the miles short, 5-8 a day.

Can we camp along the trail or is there established sites that we would be required to stay at?

Is water available to be filtered?
    How are general conditions?

I've found some general information from Alltrails and a few other blogs by general Google search but normally get the best updated information here.

    Thanks in Advance.

Saw some reports from 4-5 months ago that 3 miles of it were closed. If I called the NF district(De Soto I assume) could they give me some information on trail closures?

I have not hiked this area, but I found a good review of the trail here (http://www.traillink.com/trail/tuxac...ion-trail.aspx) They cover some of your general questions. As far as trail closures, I believe that you are correct in assuming that a call to the District office will get you up-to-date info.

    Good luck.

Haven't seen that link. Most things I've read said the trail is 12 miles. That says 22.

Called the Desoto NF but no answer yet. I'll report back when I get in touch.

Just spoke with the Desoto Ranger office. The trail is open all the way. Almost 13 miles long.

Looks like we may be checking it out in a few weeks.

When you say no water, you mean no potable water?

We will have filters as long as the creeks are running.
