Step 1: Stop stacking hammocks.

That image from Shug's past brought old memorys of Rocky Horror Picture. Who was that guy.....Tim Corry??....with Surandon.
College campuses are not places I'd expect to see responsible hammock hanging with proper straps, etc. There be idiots on them college campuses.
I'd expect to see better behavior in state/national parks.

I have to side with the colleges on this one, sadly.
Landscaping is expensive. A few careless (either because they're rude or just ill informed, either way) dolts can cause thousands of dollars and years worth of damage in short order.
And yes, please stop with the absurd stacking of hammocks!
A friend of my daughter had a wake-up call this weekend when visiting colleges. She was at the Univ. of Alabama and was told they do not allow hammocks. She said that this is actually a deal breaker for her. My son and daughter are both a year away from college and will be starting the search next fall. We live in Florida and they are looking at going to college in either GA, SC, or NC. Can we create a link or spot to let people list colleges and campuses that do not allow hammocking or have restrictions.
Actually, it would be good to create something that lists hammock friendly cities, parks, or other sites. I would be helpful to have a quick reference guide without having to do a major search.
Here is an interesting thread on that very subject....https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...leges+hammocks

Try Clemson tons of places to hang plus the lake and mountains are right there .
Go Vols! NC is a hammock paradise. Mountains, trails, beach, lakes, rivers and streams. 4 real seasons. Heck ya need a under quilt, top quilt and bug net on the same day. Don't judge us. Great university system in NC.
That's too bad, but I can't blame them. Who knows what caused that decision, but I have plenty of guesses. It only takes one stupid person. I know, I went to college and did stupid things. It sure was fun and seemed like a good idea at the time.
FWIW I was recently asked to work on implementing a hammocking area for major University in Boston.
It was an organic thing, some students want to take a responsible approach to the matter and approached the University. There was a discussion, some progress and when further input was solicited, someone mentioned "I know a guy", that's when I got involved.
It will be a limited implementation as a test and the entire project rests on a reasonable and safe approach with responsible follow thru by the students.
We'll see where it goes, working on some hammocks now. Kids will be hanging when the warm weather arrives and hopefully by next Fall, it will be a "real" thing.
The biggest downside to hanging anywhere publicly is damage, real or perceived to nature or public property and of course there's the liability issue should a lamppost or whatever drop on someone.
Philly's hammock park is a great example of what can be done. Actually it's a "pop up park" that's a seasonal thing and it's called the Spruce Street Park. It was an overwhelming success and is coming back this year with even more hammocks.

In other parks and cities, the situation is much different and it's actually a crime to hang a hammock. You could be cited, fined and generally made unwelcome. This will only change through education and responsible use.

But there is some positive press out there as well.

It's up to the enthusiasts on here to work the issues, we're the so called experts that can help guide responsible public use or suffer the results of blatant misuse/abuse and the State, Local and Federal Guv'mint regulations that recently been created and continue to increase.
