    I am amazed

I am amazed at times how strong the pull of the woods can be. Work life, kids, scouts, sports, social commitments, it all equals time spent away from the hush of the deep wood, the thump of a wood pecker seeking dinner. I find myself going over my hammock and gear a lot. No need to really, it just reminds me of the creek I slept next to last time I was in the woods. Its past time to grab the hammock and get out into the woods for at least an over nighter.

And the more you are in the woods, the stronger the pull when I am away! But I like it that way. With fall in the air; the dry fly fishing bite is on and the Aspens are changing colors. Also, can't wait for the calm of the winter woods.

Yaaa. . . I need a cool starry night as my bedroom ceiling sometime soon!
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

You remind me of a truth I read in one of my books. BTW, I have literally gone out into the yard to spend a night in my hammock.

Horace Kephart from my 1933 edition of "Camping" from his 1917 magazine articles and book:

    Quote:

"Yet all of us who spend much time in the woods are keen to learn about the other fellow's 'kinks.' And field equipment is a most excellent hobby to amuse one during the shut-in season. I know nothing else that so restores the buoyant optimism of youth as overhauling one's kit and planning trips for the next vacation. Solomon himself knew the heart of man no better than that fine old sportsman who said to me 'It isn't the fellow who's catching lots of fish and shooting plenty of game that's having the good time: it's the chap who's getting ready to do it."
"You can stand tall without standing on someone. You can be a victor without having victims." --Harriet Woods
