    Dutchware Winter Sock?

Anyone using Dutch's Winter Sock? Strongly considering getting one for a WBBB. How warm is it? How waterproof? How is it attached to the hammock? Would I need to use a tarp with it for Autumn or Early Spring backpacking on the AT?

    Any feedback appreciated.

I've been using the summer version this year, thinking that in the winter I would turn it over and use as a cover with net on bottom - leaving a little room at the head since there would be no mesh as on the std winter sock. Just got it in the spring so can say how well it works in cold. So far, its been good as a retractable bug net when needed

I believe it does cut wind pretty well, eliminating the need for an UQ cover and for doors on a tarp, at least in terms of normal fall/spring temps. I'd probably still want my tarp doors in winter temps.

Its not waterproof, and not a substitute for shelter. I'm sure it would keep any exterior condensation/dew off of you if you're not using a tarp on a clear night.

p.s. it slides over your hammock... narrows to a sewn end, then the other end is wide with a cinch cord.

I don't have one, so can't give any feedback, but wanted to say hello and welcome. I enjoy your website/blog, it has been a very helpful resource to me recently getting into backpacking. I'm sure someone will chime in with info soon, people are really helpful around here.

Sounds similar to mine from Simply Light Designs. It'll keep the wind from blowing your heat away and keep those raindrops that make it under the tarp at bay.

I really like my sock from warbonnet, it stays as a permanent attachment to my winter hammock
