I have both and lean toward mesh when I get/make another pair. I'd be interested to know what others think.

I would take Rain Man's Advice... why do you think they call him RAIN Man. However, to confuse the matter more: I would say: Mesh over Sil and CF over Mesh! But that is just me. Also Rain Man has both but not CF. I have none of the 3 because I am still Dirt Baggin it. I have the $1 Walmart Louvre's that I replace every other year. I will make my final choice when I purchase my Winter Palace CF Tarp.

I'll probably stick with the mesh snake skins. Wanted to see if anybody prefers the sil skins over mesh. I don't think I'll be going the cuben route until I get a cuben tarp.

I decided to go with the Silnylon skins from Simply Light Designs. I wanted to be able to cover the tarp when it is wet without worrying about the rest of my gear getting wet. I just open the tarp at the next stop (or home) to let it dry out. The way that the tarp bunches up inside the skins, it will not dry out when using the mesh skins so the only advantage I see might be the weight of the mesh versus the nylon. I do like the pocket on each end of the skins for my CRL to go into.

I have silnylon. I love it. It does help keep the other stuff from getting wet, but I strap mine outside the pack when its raining. People say the mesh lets it dry out. Maybe 2% of the tarp is exposed to air. Another told me that mesh keeps air bubbles from forming when he rolls the skins up. I dunno?...maybe it does. I feel the nylon will protect my tarp a little better. So? That's all I can come up with. HYOH and enjoy this great weather!

Mesh! I don't have to worry about making a big air pillow and squeezing it flat again. I use them for ease of packing and unpacking. I don't give a hoot about the rain protection or "storage when away" thing. I also always have my tarp on the outside of my pack. I think that has a lot to do with my preference.

I use Silpoly. I graduated from the dollar store scrunchy when I made my new tarp. The sil is much better for me and it does not get snagged on sticks/branches or pick up leaves or dirt from the ground if it comes in contact when setting up. They also slide on and off the tarp nice.

I have both with no preference really. I like my SLD a little better maybe because of the great pockets for the ridgeline on the ends. Jared also puts small loops on the end which connect to my stingerz, keeps everything neat and tidy. Genius!
