    Winter Camping and Under Quilts

Living in New Hampshire I can expect temperature to range between 20 to -10 deg F. I currently own a 20 and 40 deg rated under quilt and was wondering if pairing them together would give me the needed insulation for winter camping? Also I plan on using a Hammock sock.

yup! stacking quilts (top and bottom) is a great way to push for lower temps!

I've been surprised a couple of times when stacking a 20° and 40° UQ (around 3.5" of loft total) well into the single digits. You may need to enlist the help of a small pad to get into those -10° temps..?.. you'll need to do some testing with a solid bail-out plan to see how low that combo will get you.

Yes, stacking works well for underquilts, but you may have to alter the suspension of the outside quilt so it does not compress the first quilt.

Stacking works... Just make sure the second quilt does not compress the first quilt in use.

I don't have a full sock, but use a wind resistant UQ protector to help with the lower temps.
It helps, within reason. Maybe I'll consider stacking UQ on my next cold weather hang. Good call.
I have a synth New River as my "other" UQ so compression shouldn't be a concern.
Just need to experiment to see which to put where.

i'm thinking about using a packable down throw ( Great Cosco find) as an additional layer for my 40° Boone. What warmth range would you give 700 fill power?
