I'm off New Years Eve---might be fun....what are the hanging potentials there? Say if 50 hammockers show up is there enough trees?
I've been to Springer, touched the plaque/signed the book and off I went-didn't assay for a group hang.

Been there - done that. Only it was weekend before Christmas last year. Temps in high 30's day time, winds blowing all day and night, steady at 30 and up to 45-50 and night. Morning temp was close to 10*, without the windchill. Hammock was snug, but popping tree limbs were a nuisance. Watch out for deadman trees.
The Good News - there were no mosquitos!!!!!

I won't be there... my family wants me at home for New Year's, and I've volunteered to help with trail maintenance in Linville Gorge on New Year's day.

Regarding high winds on mountaintops... I love the terrific noise the wind makes as willywaws race through the trees on either side of you, making channels through the boughs, and threatening to send all crashing down upon you!
