MEMBRANE silpoly now shipping - $5.95 /yd through Sunday

It took the better part of a year, but we finally got it. Today I'm extremely proud to announce the arrival of MEMBRANE silpoly - the lightest, most waterproof tarp material on earth.

Compared to our original silpoly, MEMBRANE sil is 17% lighter at 1.03 oz/sq yd. It's also more waterproof at a hydrostatic head rating of > 2000 mm, meaning that your tarp will stay waterproof longer. Bundle that with the low-stretch of silpoly, and there's nothing even close to Membrane sil for UL tarps. If you want it light, this is it.

We're starting in 4 earthy colors plus our signature Olive Yellow:

    Olive Yellow

    Charcoal Gray

    Khaki

    Black

    Dark Olive

Please note - this is an ultralight tarp material. As such, you should take a little extra care when handling the material and then using/storing your tarp or shelter. Just like you'd take a little extra care of your 10D UL quilt, you want to take a little extra care of your MEMBRANE sil tarp.

As a thank you to all our customers, we're running a launch special of only $5.95 /yd through Sunday @ midnight. If you want a UL tarp, the time is now.

We're in the shop until around 4 pm today, so if you order quickly, we should be able to ship today. If anyone has questions, I'll be happy to answer. As always, thanks for all your support and business.

    THANK YOU

ohsnap. So how does this compare to the 2nd gen. PU4000 in terms of which is better for a really light tarp? The main obvious difference is long term waterproofness but it seems like the weight savings would only be around a half ounce total for the hex 12 tarp...thoughts?

The calculate the difference in weight as ~1.8 oz. Remember the PU4000 finished weight, counting the coating, is 1.4oz.

Here is the build thread that RBTR did for their tarp with the new MEMBRANEsil. Looks like the finished weight will save a couple ounces over for a full tarp.

I missed the part where it says 1.4oz with the coating, thanks for pointing that out. And then I also just saw Kyles post in the build thread comparing the different fabrics. Right now in my mind I am doing the dance between long term durability as well as the current cost difference. I am leaning towards just going with the membrane hex 12 tarp kit, in OLIVE YELLOW! (I think I caught the olive yellow fever from wafflebox)
