    Balsam Mtn CG

I'm thinking about heading up to Balsam Mountain Campground in the Smokies next Sunday for a couple days of hiking, camping and R&R. Has anyone been up their recently? Are there good hanging sites; I'm thinking back in the t**t only section; or should I plan on taking a stand? Are the Campground Hosts good to work with? I'm hoping for some solitude, some cool fall weather, and clear skies for the Blood Moon and lunar eclipse.

It has been about two years since I was at that location. The rangers were very friendly then. I want to say the tent sites were pretty small (I was lugging around an 8 man tent for my family and didn't think it would fit on any of the pads).

The old FS road down to the valley was open for vehicle travel and it was a nice drive back down to Cherokee. If it is open, I would suggest trying it out.

    Good luck,

I was there last week and only saw 1 good spot to hang from. I would take the stand.

Try the Mile High campground. It has some good hanging spots.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
