I like the parallel to ridgeline for underquilt and perpendicular for TQ. If you overfill, which it seems most do, shifting is typically less of an issue. Try doing the light test to see if down shifts easily or if you have less than an adequate amount of down.

Chevron baffles are new to me, but I have to agree... I love the look, and I imagine the labyrinth they create would go a long ways towards mitigating shifting.

when I made my bottom quilt, I went through the same question. At the time, I decided imitation was the sincerest form of flattery and went with channels across based on a picture on Jacks r better site. My quilt is pretty overstuffed and I've not noticed any settling.

I spent some time this year pondering over that question, and decided on a hybrid design when I designed my TQ. I'm considering something similar for my next UQ too.

I'm finishing mine in the next day or two. I went with parallel; end to end for the UQ. TQ, still not sure...

I wouldn't sweat that too much - as someone else observed earlier, in an UQ the lowest point where the down wants to settle to is exactly where you lie. My main reason for preferring predominantly longitudinal baffles on an UQ is because it makes dealing with the circumferential difference between the inner and outer layers easier.
