    What color and why??

I have several hammocks and tarps (DIY and purchased) and I noticed that they are all of a muted color palette (browns, greens and black). I chose those colors because I like they idea of being stealthy. But now I'm considering a brightly colored hammock (blue or something.... Let's not get too crazy).
I was curious what color(s) other people are using and why they chose that color.
Obviously there is no right or wrong answer, just curious.

    Happy hanging

Great question... I'm going to subscribe to this thread. I'm just starting out, and I can't afford to buy multiples of everything. I've been having the same thoughts and questions about tarp color.

My first hammock was green and it was a skeeter beeter pro from grand trunk and that was the only color it came in. When I decided to go with a 11' Dutch hammock I went with a argon grey one and went with it because it was a darker color. The he came out with a nylonD model so I wanted one of them so I went with orange and the reason I chose it was when it first came out there was only orange and purple and I'm not a fan of purple. He then came out with hexon and I went with the blue because blue is one of my favorite colors

Stealthy colors for me. Mostly because half of the spots I camp in, I need such colors to not get found. Because I'm a ninja.

If I was only going to camp in legal/regulated spots, then I'd choose whatever color that looks nice. Blue probably.

Mine is all green. Firstly because I bought from DD and there was no choice, secondly because it's illegal to wild camp in the UK so the need to be stealthy. If it wasn't for those things, I'd probably choose a random selection of mismatched, bright colours, maybe put some glitter on there.

I tend towards muted colors, but not really to be stealthy. I don't try to disappear. That being said, I do try to go with natural colors. Personally, the last thing I want to see when going backpacking is this bright <insert gaudy color here> tent/hammock killing the serenty and peace. To me, it seems good manners if nothing else to try to not stand out. I'm a bit more lax on hammock color though. It's usually buried in an UQ anyway.

So far I it's been colors that we like for the hammocks (tablecloth), that white one Infinity had a sale on (the wife liked it and I think plans on a tie-dye of some sort). No tarp yet and I plan on using something I have to start with so blue, green, or brown is what I think I have and will depend on what fits.

Stealth camping and camo are terrain specific, so unless all your gear matches the surrounding terrain, then the stealth camp is not really that stealthy. For my way of thinking, there are some pretty nice camouflage patterns out there that have have visual appeal. I grew up bow hunting, and as being in the woods, up in trees, and always being still, I can tell you that horizontal lines, triangles and movement will give position away in very short order.

So, here is my tablecloth hammock in a Timothy Leary camo pattern, click on the image and feast your eyes Laddie!

Hammock Bling... of course I would have never chosen these colors, when I self identified with a specific cultural heritage, these days it is simply visual appeal and mood altering perceptions.

Coyote Brown because it provides a slimming effect.

How many times have we heard this question in the backcountry?

"Hey Wisenber, do I look fat in this hammock?"

I know the bears appreciate it when I try to look good for them

...but seriously, i read a report about a study that said the bears were drawn to the bright colors out of simple curiosity....? Better to look more "natural" in their surroundings than not. Bears scare the porcupine quills outta me.
