My sons Boy Scout troop participated in a Klondike derby this past weekend and it allowed me to get in my February hang. The boys and other leaders slept inside a cabin and I sleep peacefully outside. image.jpg

I'd be in if I didn't live in a noisy subdivision. I swear people never sleep! And there is always trucks backing up. BEEP BEEP BEEP. It's like trying to sleep while your alarm is going off. What a pain.
No tying to trees here. This will be a test of the hammock stands, with wind too. I staked them down. I actually made this stand for the other hammock, and the ridge pole is a bit short for the Hennessey, but it's the longest that will fit in my vehicle.

5 for 5- spent Sunday and Monday nights in my hammock on an Olympic National Park wilderness beach (Sand Point). Incredible weather, scenery, wildlife. Nights in the low 40's and it got up to 60 degrees on Monday. Probably my favorite place on earth.
I'm going to try to tick off February this weekend, we're supposed to get what amounts to frigid weather for piedmont NC (low ~15F I think). I'll be in the backyard.
I'm starting to formulate what, for me, would be an exciting conclusion to my project by ticking off September/October in Yosemite assuming a SFO business trip + wilderness permit process fall into place.

This was number three for me. I'm not sure how cold it got. One thermometer stopped working, the other said -2.7°F and low at the airport a couple miles away was -10.3°F. Anyway I was nice a warm.

Got one night in last night. Temp got into mid teens and wind was blowing about 20mph. My gear is not setup for those temps compounded with the wind. But thankfully for me my Heeler dog kept me mostly warm all night by sleeping on top of me but under my over quilt.
