Welcome, Cutty! This thread was a big reason for me to get out in all types of weather and really test my gear. You can learn a lot hanging with seasoned hangers, but hanging alone is a whole different education. Hope to see you keeping at it.

I never had the Spot, but because some areas I go to have bad cell coverage, I got the InReach just for my wife's peace of mine. If she's happy, I have a lot less problems getting out! You can PM me as well if you have questions.

I had the Spot Gen3 for a few years and it worked fine, until it didn't. Pre-set messages (the only kind with that unit) weren't getting thru, and this was with a clear sky and no leaves on the trees. At first chalked it up to catching the satellites at inopportune positions in the sky, but messages continued to not get thru which was leading to some problems with wife worrying, which isn't good. She nearly called out the cavalry a couple of times.

I went with the InReach Explorer+ which worked well and then to the Mini, which I'm using now and have never had an issue, although at first it took an unusually long time to send messages... sometimes 20-30 minutes, but now it's always within a couple of minutes, and sometimes less than 30 seconds. Nice to be able to send more detailed messages fairly easily with the EarthMate app and to have confirmation that messages are going out.

Number 59 almost didn't happen for me. Seems the entire family, except for myself, left in this state has taken ill. Leaving the city wasn't really an option for me. With a nice storm hitting the city, I thought it would be a great time to practice setting up in a storm. Managed to get the tarp deployed in less than 5 minutes and then got the hammock set without getting anything important wet. Temps only dropped to 69, so I didn't bother with a UQ...slight back chills with the wind, but not unacceptable. Hopefully, next month the family will be in a better place.
    Settled in for the night.

Next morning I took a shot of my setup. I know it's a yard hang, but this is really a nice secluded area. I actually see more wildlife here than in some of the state parks!20200728_074555.jpg

Outstanding view, mo_hunter! Looks like an awesome spot.

Chiming in to log my 2/2 July overnight hang. Weather was sporadic and it was difficult to schedule a trip last month, so I retreated to the trusty backyard.

This was my first night testing my recently completed Gemini underquilt (though it likely wasn't even necessary given these July temps), and it seemed to work really well. It fits perfectly when I'm not using the Chameleon's tie-outs, but it does appear to slip well below the tie-out points when they are used. I may need to add some extra snaps to those sections so that the UQ and tie-outs work better in tandem. Will experiment with that later.

Not the greatest spot but I did #1 Tuesday in Port O’Connor, Texas. Mosquitos were rank but I had a bug net which was a life saver.

Great thing is woke at 4:30 and headed straight to the flats after breaking camp.

Number 60 done... 5 years! Unfortunately, I couldn't get away, so I wound up in my favorite yard trees. Got a great view of the Mars, Saturn and Jupiter and a then a local family of deer put in an appearance.

The forum isn't letting me post pics again, but there wasn't much anyways. I'll update when Hammock Forums cooperates.

61st consecutive hang in. Got to the site late...in the middle of a rain shower. No fire, no stars, rain, and temps in the 40s. Sounds terrible, but I needed to get out, so. Once again, HF isn't taking my Pics (not that I have anything good to show), so I'll try to edit this later. ( anyone else having intermittent issues posting pics?)
