Just back from a 5 day adventure, so #38 is in the books. As a bonus, I've now got 28 days out on the trail YTD and hoping for 10 more by years end.

This time I was up in the UP of Michigan enjoying the fall colors and the first snowfall of the year!

This month, I hooked up with a different group. A lot of Youtube personalities (That I honestly never follow ). Over 40 folks at my last count!

I typically go hanging to get away from crowds, so we headed off to find a quiet spot by the creek.

Had a little rest and enjoyed the noises of the creek for a bit.

Our little spot was a good place to chew the fat and enjoy the view. High point of the hang was a visit by the Smurfs. It's always fun and enlightening when Randy and Deanna from Dream Hammocks are around! Unfortunately, my camera gave out, so that was the last of the pics.

    Til next month!

Late post but got #38 in on the 26th. I got to test my new Ridge Runner. Great hammock and one that I will add to the arsenal for the shoulder seasons. I still need to dial in the fit for my Incubator but it was warm enough. One more test this weekend.

#39, so I'm batting 1000! 4 days and 3 nights breaking in my hot tent/stove combo at the Gluttony Hang in Michigan. Favorite part of it so far is just waking up before sunrise, making a fire and firing up my 4 cup coffee maker for my buddies. Hoping to sneak out for another night or two this month.

I got a night in September and November. Missed October so I guess I am starting fresh again.

#39 this last weekend. Another great outing with the cooler weather and some new gear. Had a real test of my new Ridge Runner. A little tweaking to get the Incubator attached right but no cold spots this time.

View from the hammock in the morning.

Lost of deer running back and forth. Glad it was just in the morning as I have been in this area before and they kept me up most the night with their grazing and chatter back and forth.
A nice clear night to go topless and see the stars.

#39 was a quiet one. Got to the trailhead way after dark and never quite got to an established site. Setup and crashed. No fire, a bar for dinner and no "refreshments",. The upside was a chance to tune in a newish HG underquilt on a short back up hammock. 29°F and about 10mph winds and I was toasty, and that's better than I've done in the past with this setup. We'll see what January brings.

I love doing that! You wake up and finally see what kind of place you chose.

Got in #5 last night on Cypress mountain just outside of the city. It was lightly snowing when I arrived but it didn't last very long. This was my first time hanging solo. I listened to a couple of JRE podcasts while enjoying the cool mountain air. I broke in my shiny new SoloPot to make a late night coffee. It doesn't look so pretty any more. Luckily my top and under quilt were set just right and I was toasty without adjustment. I packed up early after a morning coffee and without a trace headed back to the city.

Got number 18 in last night and it was one of my bigger hammocking screw ups! Used my 11 ft Dutch tarp and my TrailLair but got the wind wrong and rain / mist was blowing in from the head end. Adjusted that with a lower tarp and went inside with the family for a while (just a back yard hang). When I came out for the rest of the evening the wind had shifted and pulled a tarp stake out resulting in water in my hammock and UQ. Ugghhhh...

I figured i was still good to go as my sleeping bag was still dry. (Mostly) Jumped in and slept great. In the morning I literally dumped water out of my UQ. Lots of lessons learned here as follow:

You can indeed stay warm in a synthetic bag even if damp. Watch for the wind and changes to same. If you get overconfident you’ll eventually get wet and cold. Practice practice practice! Hangs in the yard still have lessons to offer.

    Looking forward to #19!
