Got #7 on the first of this month but went out last night cause it was supposed to get chilly. Just misted all night, then my midnight body alarm went off and when I got up for my potty break I stepped on my ohm and broke my frame. cheap fix though and it's still serviceable for now.

All in all a good night out with my buddy. I finally got him in a hammock and he successfully took his pad to high 30's so I'd call it good.

Got out in my lowest temp so far at -1 degrees C a couple of nights ago and then woke to torrential rain. Learnt that the cold isn't a problem and that my tarp will actually keep me dry. I was concerned as I had pitched the tarp quite high but it wasn't a problem.

Re-starting this for a calendar-year in 2018 after putting in my first 12 spanning 2016 and 17. First hang of 2018 got down into the teens (18 when I checked in the morning). Nice and comfy in WB RR, Winter Lynx, HG Burrow Econ 20 with Loco Libre 3.6 Jalapeño Pepper layered on top. No bugs but I felt the net helped a bit with the slight breeze since I wasn’t using a tarp. I went camping with my buddy last weekend for #8. Great couple of nights on a lake, we got to fish for trout and just relax for two good days. Really loving my bandit tq, was toasty warm all weekend.

Successfully completed #12 just before NYE, January through December 2017. This little adventure has changed my life for the better. Heading to the MN Frozen Butt Hang next week as kind of the culmination of all our newly gained experience. Can't wait! Thanks for the great idea, OP!

I just realized this was 12 nights a year not 1 night 12 months of the year. I was thinking it was about getting out every month.

Details that make it seem less stressful.

#29 down since this thread was originally started. I had another long weekend in the woods of northern Michigan. Got to try out my new toboggan and had a low -4 and temps ranging up to the mid 20's. Most of the snow had melted away but at least we had a dusting to make it feel like winter. Really enjoyed using my new SLD Voyageur hammock!

Actually, it is once a month for 12 months. QUote from the first post by LookingforArrows. Remember, it's just spending the night outside, so your back yard is cool. The point is to get our gear out in all types of weather.

"The idea is simple, spend the night outside at least once a month. You pick the day, the location, and the gear. Take a pic and share your night out. No matter where you live one night a month for a year is guaranteed to put you and your gear through a variety of conditions. It doesn't matter if you pick the nicest day of the month to string your hammock in the back yard, the state park, or a remote wilderness area as long as you sleep a night a month for a year. This isn't intended to be a super hardcore test or anything, just a fun way to encourage everyone to get out year round and figure out what works.

I'm at 13 months I'm a row and Artgirl42 is at 10 months now. Sleeping outside for a couple nights and it's 34° so it feels like summer! Got my new flag hung and new under quilt protector rigged up.
