February makes 8/8 for me so far. Tested out a new tarp and underquilt protector in my back-yard spot. We had a bit of a warm spell, but it came with some pretty windy conditions. Temperatures were in the mid to low 30s and windy/gusty all night. I slept with an over-cover on the XLC but left an area by the face opened up to avoid condensation/ frost that I have had in the past. In hindsight, it would have been an interesting test to close it all the way up in the windy conditions to see if the external air movement was enough to take care of the condensation on its own. as it was I had no condensation issues other than right on my balaclava. I stayed plenty warm all night so the wooki/underquilt protector (2QZQ) did a nice job. The tarp certainly diverted some of the wind, but I didn't have it set very low, or directly perpendicular to the airflow. Definitely did a little swinging and jolting through the night but everything held up well. IMG_8508.jpgIMG_8509.jpgIMG_8510.jpg

I got my February hang in a couple weeks ago. 40 degrees with no wind. Nice and toasty warm! Keeping an eye on weather and other factors to get at LEAST one March hang in, but hopefully more than that.

    Just starting to try this.
Got my first hang in Sunday.
-27 C. Used my DIY Dutch Netless, DIY Costco underquilt and a cheap synthetic over bag "peapod style". Used my old MEC -17 down bag as an overquilt and my HH tarp.
Listened to the lake ice booming all night. Was toasty warm.
    First ever winter hang.

Got in my 13th Month straight this weekend! Figured there is no point in stopping a good thing! This one was spend camping at Plum Orchard Gap. While the thru hikers were in the shelter, I hung in the hammock. Much more comfortable if I say so and didn't hear any snoring from where I was.
Some Fried Apple Pie started the next morning off great!
    See ya on the trail!

March in the bag (so to speak), for my 5th month of hanging. Went to a private campground near Cottondale, Florida, that is horse friendly so I could camp with my best buddies. My girlfriend is getting into the hammock camping too - so she gets all the best of my equipment...which really only consists of a 20* MAC-gear underquilt (everything else is pretty much identical). Good enough to keep us nice and warm down to 36*F two nights in a row. This is our 3d weekend in a row hammock camping here in the south - two weekends in Alabama and one in Florida. Having a great time and we're fine-tuning our setups and sleeping more comfortably each time.

Got in #19 for March down at my stomping grounds in Pinckney Recreation Area. A little over an hour drive from home with a 11 mile hike in Saturday and 7 out on Sunday morning. Hiking temps of 15 to 30, followed by a blustery low of 11 degrees Saturday night with lots of wind, clear skies and a full moon. Gee, wonder why I had the whole campground to myself? I spent most of the afternoon just relaxing and gathering wood for my caveman TV. Around 5 pm I had dinner and enjoyed an evening around the campfire with a pint of red ale and Prairie Home Companion on the radio...

19 for 19! Had a lone hang on the grounds of an Ohio Monastery yesterday. Freezing rain most of the time, so not much fun, but another type of weather to test my gear in. Struggled to get and stay dry before crawling in for the night, but, in the end, it was a good night.Looking forward to April.

4 of 4 last night. really mild and clear night so off to the local woods with a mate. It was already dark so fire on first to give us a bit of light . Was a bit smokey as everything has been drenched but it done the job, hammocks up,wood gathered and fresh partridge on the fire. Maybe a beverage or 2 to wash it down then on with the steak kebabs and a rum chaser. Was only my friends second trip out but I think he is getting the bug, made him start the fire with ferro rod and showed him a few tricks with set up. Fire was an effort to keep going and by 0100 I gave up and got my head down.

    Great nights sleep
