I keep trying to convince my wife that camping should be like the old National Guard ads...

One weekend a month, two weeks a year.

I'll definitely average more than 12 days a year but I want to take the challenge to push me to do it more during the winter months. From April - September I get plenty of hammock time in, the rest of the year is hit and miss, especially December-February. Those winter months will really test my current gears limits, but that's a good thing as then I can know what to expect (those nights out will likely be back yard testing). I also do a terrible job of documenting my hangs (photos, etc.) so this might help start some good habits that way as well. I look forward to seeing everyone's future posts through the coming year.

    12 nights a year

I would love to try this as well. Still thinking about it though. After camping with daughter on a few days hot enough to make the Devil sigh this summer it would be hard to do June through September

That's when you go find a high mountain to camp on where it's cooler... at least that's what I do.

That'd be a piece of cake for those of us that live in the PNW.

I like this idea. I know I will have to do some solo nights, but I'm going to give it a try.

Yeah, July was OK up at John Rock in the mountains. August so far in September it has yet to be below 75 by daybreak here at the beach. Too hot and sticky to hang.

I'm already in the routine of sleeping out at least a couple nights year round here in Michigan, so I'm in on this one. This is a great way to encourage others to dust off that gear and get some use out of it.

Photo from my hang spot at the family cottage Labor Day weekend on Lake Huron....don't get me started on the noisy neighbors

I'm in on this. I was trying to go camping every weekend this semester, but stuff has already fallen through. Once a month won't be anything near a challenge though

Here's last weekend at Goose Island state park

Let me be an encouragement on this idea for anyone reading. It has been my custom the last two years running to start, usually in late October or early November and hang outside every single weekend for at least one night all the way to the end of the year, New Years and beyond until the temps get to the point that hanging outside in the balmy south just get too much. My personal record so far was last year going from October 3rd all the way to April 24th. That's 29 straight weeks of hanging. About a month later I set up a hammock in my bedroom and now I get the hammock at least once a week and sometimes more in the really hot months here in MS.

The real point is to make sure you have fun doing it. Otherwise, what real use is there in it?

Hang on Garth! Hang on Wayne!
