If anyone wants to reserve a spot for a night or 2 early to mid-week 14th thru 18th of Sept, I will pay for the site... we just need to make sure we have a site that can handle all 3 hammocks. My wife and I have WbBBirds. So, if you are familiar with Fall Creek Falls or Frozen Head SP and can assure hammock-ability, let us know.

NoJack, if you're interested in the Bean Station area, you might want to try Panther Creek State Park. It is east of Knoxville, about 6 miles from Morristown on Cherokee Lake. I haven't been there personally, but it is close to one of the areas you are considering. Again, lots of trees, water, and beauty in east Tennessee.

I will put it on the list now. Thanks again for your input. You have been really helpful.

I don't know if you'll be getting to NE Tennessee at all, but Erwin, Tn has a plethora of trails and campsites. Some of which are on/just off the AT. There are plenty of non-shelter sleeping locations.

Savage Gulf is pretty close to Tullahoma. the sites are all walk-in sites, but a few trailheads have sites very close to the parking areas.

Excellent! I know there's a KOA in Manchester, but was looking for exactly what you're talking about.

    Thanks!

No issues with hammocks in South Cumberland State Park or the Fiery Gizzard Trail.
    Is it hang time yet?

Some of those campsites you are better off in a hammock than a tent. Camped there with the Boy Scouts a few years ago and finding a level spot for a tent where we were was challenging.

Pretty much anything in East Tennessee is excellent for hiking backpacking and camping. I would recommend Frozen Head State Natural Area and anywhere on the Cumberland Trail around Caryville, TN if you want a little less traffic. Personally I love the out of the way places.
