I have a cheap Yukon outfitters hammock that has this type of setup. I find that it makes a nice head rest where the outside strip is a mini hammock of its own. Come to think of it, I've enjoyed that feature for my heels as well when using it as a lounger.. But yeah, the seam ridges are not as comfortable in sleeping mode.

One vendor was making some wide hammocks before a wide fabric came out.
It works really well. The seam is really not bothersome and doesn't affect the lay (at least to me, YRMV). I
