Hmmmm....a little bummed. I must be heavier than I thought. After using the stand on my porch for a few months the ends of the legs have started to cut through the rubber caps. Now I'm going to start looking for something to plug the end and act as kind of an edge guard. I did a bunch of searching of this thread with no luck.
For the moment I'm going to start looking for perhaps a big broom handle or other large wooden dowel to plug the ends and install some new rubber caps. Is there some other cap or plug (other than the fencing top rail ends) I can pick up at Lowes/HD that might fit the bill??
Are you using the 1" emt or something larger? I'm using the 1" and nylon caps on them, and I've got at least 100 days on mine. I use it indoors a lot in summer. No signs of wear. I did file the edges pretty smooth before capping, though.
Nope....it's the 1-3/8" fence top rail. I cleaned up the edges but the rubber is soft enough the pipe end has slowly cut through. I'm gonna go wonder the isles this afternoon. I'm wondering if the 1-1/2" rubber caps will fit over the aluminum rail end caps if I chop off the eyelet. It's kind of doubling up but will hopefully last.
Back in post #396 Rekoob suggested putting a fender washer inside the bottom of the cap. Makes sense to me.
Thanks Dave....I've been looking for something as a liner like fender washers. The top rail tubing is 1-3/8 OD. I can only seem to find 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" washers. A little too big or a little too small. I headed out this afternoon and grabbed some rail ends and some 1-1/2" rubber feet. Here's the "finished product".

It took a few minutes to saw off the tab, grind away the excess and the lip but the finished version looks OK. I could have cut down the rubber cap rather than removing the lip but it just took a short time. Cutting the excess rubber back with a knife would probably have left kind of a jagged edge where a split might start later. I'll knock out 3 more of these tomorrow.....

do you have vice grips & grinder or flat file? a bit of work, but take a little off the edges of the 1 1/2
Stand completed. I used 1" EMT for the legs to make shorter sections since they slip into the 1 3/8", drilled and pinned. I used a 1" Sch40 PVC slip cap for the end of the ridge pole and tapped it on with a rubber mallet, nice and tight it holds the outside L from slipping off. I drilled the eyebolt for the inside L so it would screw into to ridge pole therefore neither of the L brackets will walk. I'm hoping the limiting cord attached below the leg pins will work for keeping the legs from spreading but it is a little higher up on the legs (?). I'm going to be using a standard poly tarp since this is for car camping and if any camp fire embers happen to visit my tarp I will not be crying.

Nice build there. I really like that adjustable leg design.

I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.
Just got the fittings in the mail today. Will be getting the top rails tommorow. I'll post pics once I finish it.
