I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.
Thanks for the January update circusfreak - we are putting together an order for tarps.com to build a couple stands using the "1 3/8 Open L One pipe slide through".

DSCN0211.jpgDSCN0210.jpg I too used the Open L one pipe slide through. But I wanted to be able to take the stand apart but yet be strong. I went with swedged top rail and added a coupler to reenforce the top rail. Works out great. I have removed most of the I bolts and use phillips head screws, less things to get things hung up on.
How long are the legs on your stand?
Whelp... Looks like I've got some work to do thanks for the tip off on the website!
I was looking at making a turtledog using the military antenna sections. So now I'm thinking about a Mashup between the two. I like this design a lot and wonder if the Id /od dimensions would work out. Light weight aluminum sections would be cool.

Great stand. Like some others here, I tried a few connectors with different angles and just couldn't get it to work out, this solves that problem and all I need is the 4 L pieces. Thanks for the idea.
I made this stand as soon as I came across this thread. My mod to it is has 6 foot legs (5+1 foot pieces), used the top rail couplers. All sections are 5 foot. simple sturdy stand.

I made the legs for mine 6 foot long.
Just finished one today. I used the top rail from my Turtle Dog stand. 6 poles all 5'3". Tested a small tarp over the top rail. If I needed to use a full tarp I would use a longer top rail and suspend the tarp below the top rail. I also have a button clip that holds the two top rails together. The stand is more sturdier than I thought it would be.
