Chicot state Park primitive loop campsite size

How big are the campsites on Chicots loop trail?

One of the places we are thinking about going with the troop. But I'm worried the campsites may be too small for a bigger group. We want to hike the 20 mile loop and camp two nights in it. Just wondering if 30 or more people would be too many for the sites.

Most of the campsites are on the smaller size. I've only camped in primitive sites #2, 3, and 4. Site 2 is the largest of the three; you may be able to squeeze 30 scouts in there if you split up between tents and hammocks. Some tents would need to pack 4-6 scouts each. We did a boat/canoe/kayak trip to site 2 with 4 adults and 7 kids and had a little space to spread out.

You could split up between sites 2 and 3 to make it happen. Put more scouts in #2. We had 7 full grown men camp comfortably there for my bachelor party. There is about a 2.5 mile hike between those two sites, and remember there is no electricity or running water at those sites.

There are also no reservations (they may make an exception for a bone fide group). On the two times I tried to camp here, all sites where taken. Maybe I should leave my house at 4, or go when the weather is bad...

Right, they make you select your site at the office, but there is no guarantee that the site will be empty. I usually make it out there during the Easter weekend and often find an empty site. Ticks are bad that time of year, so I guess it helps to keep some people away.

I'll be hanging at Kisatche this Easter weekend, so that's one less person to worry about if you were to give Chicot another try.

It wasn't a terrible hike. But I don't need to hike it again.

Did you try getting all of your scouts out there? If so, how did it go?

No. I just did a solo one nighter.

Having to filter from the lake was not fun. Tough to get to the water. Although it tasted pretty good. Mosquitoes and banana spiders were tough but I went in late September. It should be a winter trip. But would also suck in wet conditions.

We will stick with Kisatchie trails.
