Anybody know a place to hammock or tent camp in the Wilmingon area?
I visit my daughter there on occasion and would sometimes rather camp than be in a hotel, especially since those seem hit or miss.

Carolina State Park (Carolina Beach, 20 mi. from Wilmington,)?
Wilmington has a couple of campgrounds as well. I haven't stayed at any of them but have heard the State Park one was nice and clean. I plan on a late fall trip to that one myself. I was told it stays full all the way to late November. Look at trip reports (page 2), Also pm Pappyamos, on hammock forums he lives down there. He should be able to tell you about that area.
Hi Paul,
Yep, CBSP is the closest public choice. I don't know of any privately run one. In the fall, it should be no problem getting a site in the main campground. If you would like, I could write down some hammock friendly sites on my next hike through the campground. That would let you reserve ahead.
There are also the group camp sites (2.) You have to pack in 1\4 mi. to those. They only have pit toilets - the old outhouse style. The advantage is quiet! Nothing but the owls and the coyotes! They are only $13 a night for up to 6 people then a small per person charge after that.
The park gate is locked fairly early which might be inconvenient. I'll PM you my phone number and email. Let me know how I can help.
Pappy
PappyAmos can also tell where all the good places to eat and drink are in the area. Just don't ask him about the blast zone.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Don't want to scare him off

It has me more interested than scared off.
And thanks all for the info on Wilmington. We'll have to check out the state park.
