It seems like it has been a fast summer with not a lot of outdoor trips. That's been ok though as the trade-off was spending time with my daughter home from college & a vacation to St. John USVI. Plus, a new beagle puppy has kept us busy chasing her around. I've don't know much about beagles so it will be interesting.
We got out for a looong day trip this past week, driving up to Grandfather Mountain for another attempt on MacRae Peak.
There was no hurry on this trip. We took 90 min to go a mile. Course part of that was me gasping for air, but mostly it was a lot of moseying & climbing around on every rock feature. After hitting MacRae, we looped back on the Underwood trail, which I don't have too much positive to say - the trail was all roots & rocks, plus slippery from being wet.
We then drove some gravel roads for over an hour down to Wilson Creek, where the day warmed up enough to enjoy some of the creek. We found a couple spots along the road and had some end of summer fun swimming & sliding on rock. It would have been nice to have an overnighter but that wasn't in the cards on this trip.
