awilder, I had forgotten about that part actually. We were setting up for the heavy storms we were supposed to have (and never got) but unfortunately, it was either down by the water in a flash flood zone or up on the very uneven hills. Oh well! We still had a blast! Just took ibuprofen upon waking

A hammock under a decent tarp is always about 100 times better in the rain than a tent. Maybe 200 times.

Is that hammock stand DIY, or can you provide a link to a manufacturer?

    Thanks!

My back hurts just thinking about it. The best teacher is usually our own mistakes. And Shug.

    I bought a stand from here: http://www.handyhammock.co.uk/order
Very clever design with the pegs doing an admirable job holding for 2 nights in a row with no sign of pulling out.

Last night I slept in my own bed because I had to get up this morning (2:20am) for work, I swear my bed is less comfortable than sleeping in a hammock. I am considering adding some eye bolts to my bedroom and slinging up a hammock in here.

How well do you think that stand would backpack to treeless areas?

i threw out my mattress and my lil brothers and now we use these anchors i got at the home depot (by the tie downs and truck bed accessories, they're truck bed anchors) and [2 3/4"] 5/16 lag bolts. my 'little brother' (13yo, 210lbs) sleeps two studs over from me and we have no problems. when i pass out on the couch or the spare room bed, i wake up with severe back pain. done with mattresses, i'd rather sleep outside under my tarp than in any bed any day (or night)

its only a kilogram (2.2 lbs) so if you can handle the extra weight, it would DEFINITELY be worth getting one if you plan on being in treeless areas often. i wanna get one so that i can just crash in my yard without having to go through all the fabrications necessary to 'plant' posts that won't fall in on me.

I am now seriously considering! My pack is usually around 15lbs so I can "afford" so extra weight luxuries! Especially if it keeps me hanging in my hammock!
